i've decided to begin a column on my blog. it's going to be called "mandy's haphazard quotes". for starters, when i asked her if cousin gordon has a 'love me' face, she replied, staring at her fishball noodles, "no! but i do!"

michelle: i am random. i wish that tomorrow is the eve of chinese new year.
"little" (status-wise) uncle kelvin: me too!

touch rugby is a lovely game. i actually enjoy playing touch rugby, although i really abhor running. i went for the touch clinic organised by the touch team in smu. i like the game, but the training dates don't entice me. so, i am not joining the touch team. but i like their "touch me because i am beautiful" shirt. so cute!

a visit to british council with junie on saturday was insightful. i got some tips on how to improve my absolutely critical personal statement. also, i got to know an ex-rjc guy, ghim, who is applying to electrical engineering. he is quite nice to talk to. i tried coercing him into applying to imperial college. the rest of the people, mostly guys, were quite friendly too. i enjoyed myself there. meeting junie was great. i really hope she will be uk-bound. it was such a pity serene couldn't come along.

chantal kreviazuk summarises the feeling many students who are going overseas, "so kiss me and smile for me, tell me that you'll wait for me, hold me like you'll never let me go. cause i'm leaving on a jet plane. i don't know when i'll be back again. oh, babe, i hate to go."

Bran. says:
why does HE slant himself in every pic?
[extemporaneous michaela] i have absolutely not accustomed to school life yet. TENNIS RAWKS!!! *missheru says:
i dun noe???? u ask mandy!
Bran. says:
does he hav a back disorder?

[extemporaneous michaela] i have absolutely not accustomed to school life yet. TENNIS RAWKS!!! *missheru says:
why are you so nasty to him? he has the same name as you.
Bran. says:
support me (original). piracy (him) is a crime.

Bran. says:
i wuld reccomend u to post pic machiam SOURCE-BASED qn to prove tt dey both slant in every pic.

the person brandon was referring to is mr 'fall to pieces'. no, both of them do not have back disorder. but yes, they do slant themselves in pictures coincidentally.

the worst news that ever hit me this entire month is that kl is flying to the land of 'wot', aka england, next month. i am forlorn, lachrymose, poignant, woebegone, downcast and loads more of negative adjectives you can come up with. in short, i am so unhappy, i could bawl my eyes out any minute. okay, come to think of it, miss feminist, me, is never like that. it is an exaggeration. i will not bawl my eyes out. i will, at most, tear. i will keep up my undisturbed font. ostensibly, i am confused inside out. listen up, psychology students, i am a candidate for your experiment. on the same medical note, i do not have nose cancer! i had this impossibly miniature tube inserted via my nostrils, right deep down into my throat, to examine the cause of my horrendously blocked nose problem. gentle doctor lim sprayed anaesthetic and it was a novel experience feeling numb. i hope i managed to make some people go "ewwwww!!!!". (:

tomorrow's the start of my uk education application. yippie!!! please pardon my extemporaneous mood swings. danke!

convocation is THE event of the smu calendar. all around suntec city convention centre on saturday were well-dressed students in white tops and black bottoms. well, that's if you totally neglect the student leaders, who were in blue tops. all of them looked smart, and definitely presentable. this special occasion did a good job in drilling loyalty in the freshmen. the marketing skills are formidable. after going through this, i grew to be very proud of my university, albeit i was naming it "smothering.mutilating.uninviting" before that.

then, the academic year began. i struggled terribly to find parking areas in the city. unimaginably costly parking fees in town! walking around from school to school, building to building, that's absolute hideousness. nevertheless, i am proud of the state-of-the-art facilities and to say that my university is in the heart of the city. now, i go to town for an education. how cool is that? plus, my lovely time table begets me holidays on thursdays and fridays. a long weekend. please, continue to envy me. your jealousy is comprehendible.

and i have to mention that there's a cute senior in business school by the name of kelvin. i see him around campus quite often. and the best part is that he is in my management accounting class! that makes my day, my long long day.

korean prof sam han: what are your hobbies?
mischievous student: soccer. oh, and, eating kimchi!

a random comment: i love 'analytical skills' classes! the assignments are so fun...so far. but business law classes are the most relevant and interesting!

michelle: i am so hungry. i need meal supplements!!
mandy: what? you need male supplements?

i went to amk methodist church on sunday. it was my first time there. and i love that place, so far. the people are absolutely friendly. they take the initiative to come over, talk to you and get to know you. mornique and i felt very welcomed. kudos to clara, esther and joseph for helping us settle down! the speaker, louis, was damn hilarious with his "trip to brazil on south african airlines" story. the poor guy lost his luggage, and had to resort to making use of all the free toiletries in the hotel. PRAISE GOD FOR AMK METHODIST CHURCH!!!
louis, "i'll leave it to you to pass your own judgement regarding south african airlines."

inflating and deflating the ego
mornique boosted mandy's ego, "i actually wanted to dedicate a blog entry to how i admire mandy. but i decided not to."
mandy, after some time, "hey, why not? anyway, what's the blog entry about?"
cousin brandon burst mandy's ego, "i'm sure mister 'fall to pieces' is interested in her, and not treating her as an eye candy. i mean, what does she have to offer?"
mandy, giving a hurt look, "tsk! hey!"

mandy's egocentrism prevails, "i wanted to type 'i am bored' on the cell phone, but instead, i accidentally typed 'i am adored'."

mandy, after i took a picture of her doing her work, "hey, delete that and re-take it. i'll remove my glasses."
evidently, mandy is a walking paradigm of narcissism.

mornique, the one-eye-jack, called in excitement, "hey! i think i just saw mr 'fall to pieces' at kap. his side-view is so similar. no wait, the front-view sucks! but they have the same hair-style and name and are from the same school!"

wise words from whitey, coach of the ravens (championships-winning basketball team of tree hill high school): "take one hard stare at the mirror and ask yourself if that person is the person you want to be."

I LOVE RICHARD GASQUET OF FRANCE!!! je t'aime! (:

then i realised that i also like paul-henri mathieu. okay, and maybe, rafael nadal, andy roddick and lleyton hewitt too! US OPEN, START SOON!!!
the return of EPL begets the revival of cristiano ronaldo, petr cech, francesc fabregas, robin van persie and jose antonio reyes. now, how can i bear to hate the black box when it is so alluring?

Seven Awarded Prestigious SAF Overseas Scholarship

Seven officer cadets have been awarded the prestigious Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Scholarship (SAFOS) this year. These scholars have excelled in both their academic and co-curricular activities, and have also turned in sterling performances during their officer cadet course. Minister for Defence, Mr Teo Chee Hean, presented the seven SAFOS recipients with their Certificates of Award as well as their Ceremonial Swords at the Temasek Club this afternoon and they now join the ranks of 243 others before them.

Three of the seven scholars are from the Army, two are from the Republic of Singapore Navy and two are from the Republic of Singapore Air Force. One of the scholars has also been conferred the 2005 President's Scholarship. All seven scholars are bound for tertiary education in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Known as the most prestigious scholarship after the President's Scholarship, the SAFOS has one of the most stringent selection criteria, ensuring that the SAF attracts the best and the brightest of each cohort of school-leavers to join the MINDEF/SAF. Within the SAF, SAFOS recipients will take on a variety of challenging appointments to groom them for the highest level of command and leadership positions. Training and development provided coupled with the discipline and leadership qualities that are inculcated in them ensure that they are able to assume key positions in the Administrative Service or private sector.

The illustrious list of past SAF overseas scholars includes the Prime Minister, Mr Lee Hsien Loong; Minister for Defence, Mr Teo Chee Hean; Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr George Yeo; Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr Lim Hng Kiang; Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for National Development, Mr Lim Swee Say; Chief of Defence Force, Lieutenant-General Ng Yat Chung; Chief of Air Force, Major-General Lim Kim Choon; the Chief of Army, Major-General Desmond Kuek; Chief of Navy, Rear-Admiral Ronnie Tay and Brigadier-General (NS) Lam Joon Khoi, CEO of Singapore Land Authority.

Witnessing the presentation ceremony this afternoon were senior officials from MINDEF and the SAF, as well as parents and Junior College principals of the seven recipients.

act 2, scene I
malicious doraemon enters stage with a huge group of prisoners.
malicious doraemon: all you prisoners, start your physical training by running round the castle. make it quick! or you shall face the horrendous fire treatment.
prisoner todd starts the run, with the scorching hot sun not giving any mercy to him. after some time, prisoner todd looks up and sees princess jessica standing at the opening of one of the windows of the castle. prisoner todd and princess jessica look into each other's eyes dreamily.
malicious doraemon: hey, prisoner todd! continue your run!

act 2, scene II
malicious doraemon: today's the king's birthday, and therefore, to show his graciousness, all you low-class prisoners are allowed a bottle of water.
prisoner todd runs quickly to claim his bottle. while drinking, he was scouting around for the presence of princess jessica. he faces the window, catches glimpses of her and sips his drink in delirium.

act 2, scene III
professor lucius enters stage from the left, and takes his place beside malicious doraemon. princess jessica enters stage from right, and takes her place in front of malicious doraemon and professor lucius.
malicious doraemon: your highness, this is professor lucius. he is the personal mentor of prisoner todd.
professor lucius: (bewildered) why did you suddenly mention prisoner todd?
princess jessica looks, expressing annoyance, at malicious doraemon who happily sniggers.
malicious doraemon: professor lucius, this is princess jessica. she's royalty!
princess jessica raises her eyebrows, and flounces in a huff off the stage.

footnote:
prisoner training ground refers to tennis courts.
castle refers to the viewing area.
royalty refers to all-girls-school.

mandy contradicted herself sub-consciously, "i ALWAYS do that, SOMETIMES!"

mornique's "wise" little words:
qn: farmer a sells chickens. farmer b sells eggs. what does farmer c sells?
ans: medicine. a pharmacy (pronounced as "farm-er-c") sells medicine.
qn: why didn't the monster eat the clown up?
ans: it was afraid he would taste funny.

i embarrassed myself, "and then, mandy drank 'glurp'."
mandy, laughing hysterically, "glurp! big gulp and slurpee combined!"

cousin brandon, enlightened after looking at a picture of master 'fall to pieces', "i realised that he doesn't know how to wear a tie. he needs maddy!"

michelle's theory: the later the boy is born, the cuter he'll become.
neptina's explanation: in the past, the boys dressed like nerds. now, the boys have better fashion sense. therefore, they'll always be cuter!

i had a great shopping spree with stressed-up-to-her-death-bed joanna. she lavishly spent over a hundred dollars. well, retail therapy does help you to reduce stress level, but increases financial burden. haha. afterwards, it was dining at newton circus, with the american (ellis) meeting the briton (yours truly). ellis finally returned from 'the land of the free' to meet us - the vibrant smu people (gloria, jasmine and i) and ntu-people-in-black (joanna and neptina). i absolutely enjoyed myself, although i would very much wish to dine at the american club. or even lawry's. can money please fall from the sky?

mandy, after watching the trailers for 'shooting stars', said, "this show is so lame! but i'm going to watch it."

joanna sms-ed me: i guess, since you didn't follow up with an sms, the quality of smu guys is not encouraging.

dad exclaimed, after flipping through the occ newsletter which featured the recent tennis tournament, "that's me! i wore blue shirt and green bottoms on sunday. it must be me!"
mandy responded with huge sense of bewilderedness, "but this picture was taken on saturday."
mornique, shaking her head in disbelief, muttered, "dad, you cannot even recognise yourself."

mandy claimed, "it's good to have a bubbly personality."
yours truly opened my eyes wide and rebutted, "do you have a bubbly personality?"
mandy cut in, mortified, "hey! i am bubbly, okay!"

"horny 4 u also wrong?" - the most hilarious message-sent-wrong of the century.

some thoughts that do not fit into the same train: reading blogs of and hearing from people who are leaving to the greener pastures of the west have somehow made me downcast. i could have been packing tonnes of belongings, figuring out how to settle myself down in prestigious london school of economics, attempting to curb the pre-london-bound-flight jitters and preparing to bawl my eyes out at the departure gates of changi airport. all these were replaced by my matriculation into - i've never wished - a local university, doing - i've never wished - business and learning that it is compulsory for me to do a - i've never wished - lnat test (when it wasn't compulsory last year). yes, i am still bitter about not leaving. therefore i shall convince myself that this transient dwelling in smu shall be the most havoc time of my life. *struts off with an evil laugh* wah hahaha! (:

mandy's theory of infatuation: when you are harbouring a crush on someone, going to school doesn't stay a chore.

vivace wasn't that fun as i thought it would be. smu guys are not as hot as stereotyped. but my og group has the most fun-loving and friendly people around. comical, as well. but then again, those few hours were insufficient for me to know them well enough. hopefully the next gathering will help. i noted that many smu people are rather opulent.

welly has a knack for making a fool of herself, even in front of a whole pizza hut restaurant full of patrons. she sang, very out-of-tune-ly, to many of the current hit music. i'm glad for a friend like her, because she spices up your life, giving you laughter, albeit at the expense of her humiliation. the best thing is, she seems to enjoy doing that. i applaud her.

blood's thicker than water. i absolutely agree.

happy birthday daddy! my genius dad, with - i quote mandy - very cool hairdo, is the best role model i have. i look up to him a lot and wish that he'll stay healthy and happy. i love him!
