strut out of ocean towers in corporate-chicness with two lawyers (who are suavely dressed in suits), board a taxi (expenses paid by client) and cab to the subordinate courts is about the coolest thing that i experienced since i started my internship at drew & napier. yes, this exhilaration dies down but i shall enjoy it while it lasts. i used to think long-sleeve-collared-top-and-black-bottoms is about the most boring thing to wear. but really, i have grown to love it. granted the humidity does no good, but the feeling is just awesome.
immaturity aside, my internship has been challenging. my mentor assigned me three cases to read in one morning, of which one was the case for the court session that i attended. today, he assigned me yet another job - to give him a precedent. i assumed it to be stare decisis, obiter dicta or ratio decidendi, ie the foundation of common law. in other words, cases. however, he was baffled to know that i got the wrong idea, which led him to lots of "my dear girl, you don't know what that is?". they are, in fact, backbones of contract or other legal documents. i have to draft a contract! how exciting, yet daunting.
nonetheless, i think my mentor is really nice. he treats me like a daughter! :)
worthy to mention, candace has possibly the cutest mentor in the entire law firm. he gets away with abandoning her. that is how cute he is. i think my mentor reckons we are the most bimbotic interns around. darn! even our interns-coordinator keeps teasing us. i think we got a lot to prove. but heck, we are having fun and that's all that matters!
