yesterday i had my maiden visit to chinatown (that's as far as i could remember). and today, i had my maiden stroll in the pouring rain, in my sajc school uniform. both experiences are far beyond enriching.
by visiting bustling chinatown, not so much there for shopping, being immersed in that lunar new year atmosphere, it truly taught me the traditions and cultures of the chinese people. from the buying of new year goodies (which is of course one of the best thing about the existence of new year), to spring cleaning (which i've never done before) and putting up of new year decorations, all these make up part of the culture and traditions of lunar new year. maybe it is because of the wonderful atmosphere i got from chinatown, i begin to feel proud of my chinese roots (not in any way being racist here!) - a chinese whose ancestors hail from the middle kingdom. i proudly proclaim, 'wo shi hua ren!' (which means 'i am chinese'. sorry for being so cheena here!)
while walking from the bus stop back to home (by the way, i saw johnson on the bus. i must say, i've never seen him for a long time. almost couldn't recognise it was him until he greeted.), i was very privileged to be caught in the rain. those lovely raindrops patted lightly on my bag, blouse and head really refreshed me after a hectic day at school. ashanti's song 'rain on me' kept going on and on in my head. yes, indeed, stop domestic violence! peace!
