my maiden chinese new year away from my family and friends, away from the humidity in sunny singapore. it was a really novel experience, having reunion steamboat dinner without your family, but in the company of your friends. my chinese new year eve was spent at international hall, where chinese new year songs were constantly played with help from a laptop in a small common room. all of us sat together, laughed and joked and watched may ling make an utter disgrace of herself by doing chinese dance to the songs. it was hilarious watching her, being herself actually, ie weird. that brought joy, nonetheless, to many of us who were homesick during this festive season which stresses on the warmth of reunion.
the first day of chinese new year was great fun! the hwa chong alumni uk organised an international chinese new year carnival. the singaporeans from my hall set up a stall selling sushi and i made five pounds out of that. (: i saw that major soft spot i had ever since my jc days! he is less cute than he was before, but nonetheless, sigh. i also saw my current crush and spoke to him for a teeny weeny bit. after the carnival, my friends and i went to chinatown to watch fireworks. it's pretty cool to know that in a western city like london, some respect has been given to a festive season celebrated by a minority group. this makes me really proud to be chinese.
the reading weekend came to an end. lectures and tutorials returned in full swing. readings, essays and homework. another four weeks of this, and i am back in singapore! so, xing nian kuai le! i have yu sheng waiting for me back home! :)
